His deep drive for connection stems from caring for his mother through chronic illness. This early exposure to caretaking ignited a lifelong curiosity regarding human resilience and purpose. A traumatic car accident later catalyzed his groundbreaking research into sleep apnea and wellness. His doctoral work investigates how virtual environments can actually deepen authentic coach-client intimacy. Ryan champions a humble approach, emphasizing that true growth often occurs within the silence. Currently, he trains future professionals to view fitness as a universal language for healing.

She reflects on her extensive "womb to tomb" nursing career, which spanned from labor and delivery to hospice care, providing her a deep appreciation for the vulnerability of the human experience. The episode highlights her pivotal transition into coaching, a practice she describes as an "antidote" to a distracted world through the sacred gift of presence and deep listening. Stewart describes the unique Wellness Center she leads, which is positioned at the hospital’s "front door" and staffed entirely by Wellcoach graduates. She offers practical wisdom on navigating the healthcare industry, explaining how a "coach approach" can build authentic rapport with stakeholders while utilizing evidence-based research to support the benefits of coaching. Ultimately, Stewart illustrates how integrating the pillars of lifestyle medicine with professional coaching creates a culture of health and dignity that "pulsates" throughout a medical system.

Yates initially focused on a creative career, teaching English and establishing the dance program at an arts high school in San Diego. Her desire to move into a more one-on-one space led her to research coaching programs, eventually integrating coaching principles into the school's social emotional learning and home room programs. She shares profound insights into the transformation she observed when her adolescent students experienced unconditional positive regard and strength-based conversations.

Yates has since evolved her work by founding Global Health Coaching, an organization dedicated to placing professional coaches within primary care settings. This organization was established in partnership with other Wellcoaches graduates following collaborative research on cancer survivorship. The conversation explores the challenges of trailblazing in the medical field, the strategic use of research and data, and the importance of having a robust coaching foundation. Yates also discusses why the action-oriented nature of coaching, which focuses on behavior change and strengths, resonated with her personal philosophy.

Chris shares his deeply personal journey in medicine, which he has always considered a calling, inspired in part by his grandfather who was also a physician. He recounts how, after over a decade of practicing medicine, he experienced professional burnout that manifested in a very specific and dangerous way for a doctor: a loss of curiosity. This came to a head during a challenging case with a very sick patient, which served as a profound wake-up call that he needed to make a change.

Chris discusses his path to healing and rediscovery through coaching, which began after attending a session on physician coaching at a national medical meeting. He explains how he initially viewed coaching as just another skill to add to his toolkit but soon realized its transformative power. He describes how adopting a coaching mindset has not only helped heal the "scar" left by burnout but has permeated every aspect of his life, making him a different and better physician, father, and husband. Tune in to hear how Chris is now integrating these skills to support medical students and other clinicians, aiming to help them reconnect with their own values and purpose to combat the high rates of burnout in the medical field.

Her coaching practice primarily focuses on lawyers with ADHD and other high achievers, though she also specializes in the intersection of ADHD and chronic health conditions. Emily is a graduate of the Wellcoaches core program and their professional coach training program, bringing a unique blend of legal experience and personal insight into neurodiversity and chronic health challenges to her work. Her compassionate and empathetic approach is deeply rooted in her own experiences and professional background.

Before transitioning to coaching, Emily was a practicing attorney for approximately six years, notably working as a court-appointed legal guardian for individuals with intellectual disabilities, profound mental health challenges, or cognitive decline. This role, which involved making healthcare and financial decisions based on her clients' personal values, instilled in her a person-focused approach that she now applies to coaching, emphasizing client autonomy and empowerment. Her shift to coaching was prompted by her own ADHD diagnosis at age 31 and the flaring of chronic health conditions, which led her to seek coaching herself and ultimately pursue it as a career to help others.

Her journey into coaching began after a 14-year career as a fitness coach, primarily with the same demographic. While she initially focused on workouts and meal plans, an experience with a client revealed the importance of addressing the underlying reasons behind health behaviors. This realization led Kim to discover wellness coaching, recognizing that she already possessed coaching skills. She chose to study at Wellcoaches in 2013 and started her own coaching practice in 2014, continuing to focus on women in midlife, coaching them over the phone.

Kim feels a strong calling to work with women who have often prioritized caring for others over themselves. Her purpose extends to advancing gender equality by raising awareness of the harm of traditional gender roles and supporting women in leadership to avoid burnout. She attracts clients through referrals and by being present in women's spaces and events, emphasizing the importance of having a clear niche so potential clients feel directly addressed.

Chris is highlighted as a Wellcoaches health equity scholarship winner and a Forbes 30 under 30 honoree. The conversation delves into Chris' journey, starting with her diagnosis of ADHD at age 28, which she describes as an "expansion" rather than a limitation, allowing her to embrace her true self after years of masking. Driven by her personal experience and the lack of accessible support, Chris, along with Xenia, a Wellcoaches graduate and her initial ADHD coach, co-founded Shimmer to address the gaps in quality ADHD coaching. Shimmer's mission is to help every person with ADHD reach their full potential their way, emphasizing intersectionality, cultural competence, and affordability.
The discussion further explores Chris' sense of purpose, which she defines as making a positive impact in an area she is uniquely passionate about, aligning perfectly with her work at Shimmer.

She teaches health education courses to young people, typically aged 18 to 22, who often come from rural communities and choose to live at home instead of residing at a four-year campus.
Before discovering Wellcoaches, Thomas was an educator who wanted to have meaningful conversations with her students but felt her methods were ineffective. She realized that she was unintentionally seeking to impress her students instead of building deep connections with them.
After going through coaching training with Wellcoaches, Thomas recognized the importance of authenticity and human dignity in her interactions with students. She sought to understand her students beyond their roles as nursing majors or student-athletes, helping them explore their identities and motivations.
Thomas emphasizes the possibility of burnout and disenchantment in any profession and encourages her students to find meaningful activities and practices to draw on their strengths. She sees her role as an educator as enhanced by her coaching skills, allowing her to connect with students on a deeper level. According to Thomas, becoming a faculty member coach has fundamentally changed her relationships with herself, her family, and her colleagues, bringing more compassion and joy into her life.

Before he was a coach, he was a sales and business development leader in the energy industry with an educational background in engineering and finance. Outside of work, he has always pursued challenges head-on. He was always focused on working toward the weekend and learning a living, but eventually curiosity piqued within him, and he learned that the world and people interested him.

During a period of self reflection in the mid 2010s, Marshall realized that the meritocracy of his previous job caused a negative company culture. So, he began a journey to finding a career path that would allow him to resonate with others on a deep level. Wellcoaches provided that connection, and now he is the founder of Humessence and helping others take their first steps toward deeper impact.
